The Secret Garden

When Mary Lennox was sent to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her uncle everybody said she was the most disagreeable-looking child ever seen. It was true, too. She had a little thin face and a little thin body, thin light hair and a sour expression. Her hair was yellow, and her face was yellow because she had been born in India and had always been ill in one way or another. Her father had held a position under the English Government and had always been busy and ill himself, and her mother had been a great beauty who cared only to go to parties and amuse herself with gay people. She had not wanted a little girl at all, and when Mary was born she handed her over to the care of an Ayah, who was made to understand that if she wished to please the Mem Sahib she must keep the child out of sight as much as possible...

A children's book is something like a long-lost friend. It's always of a sort of magic when you find your way back. One of my all time favorite children's books is The Secret Garden written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and originally published in 1910. I find it absolutely spellbinding. Apparently several film adaptations was been made since (the latest in 1993, starring Kate Maberly and Maggie Smith), none of which I have seen, sadly. But I shall make it my obligation to rectify this oversight of mine as soon as possible.

Have any of you seen the films? Any good?

Summer brights..

Just as every spring it's the florals, autumn it's the return of purple and winter it's the greys and blacks - summer brights are a classic. But what to do if your favorite color is not hot pink? (Mine is actually, but I guess you all may have already figured that out..) The easiest way to include some brights in your look is nail polish. Just a pop of color is enough to glam up any outfit. Amongst my most fancied are hot pink (obviously), highlighter yellow, turquois, peach, bright green and mellon (a sort of mix between the pink and peach color). Nail glam - color pop - is highly recommended.
But, in case you were wondering, I'm sticking with my transilvania nail style for the time being;)

Blog update

Good morning, ehm afternoon.. Ok, so now it's almost night, whatever.. I've been having the strangest week, since all of my family has gone to L.A. I've adopted a most hectic timetable of sort and thus not really managing anything at all. To make things a little simpler on myself I've decided to set a blog topic shedule, thus cutting out the middle man (e.g. staring numbly at a blank screen).

Ladies and Gentlemen, here it is:

Monday - fashion fashion fashion (+ lustings after, ...)
Tuesday - film/ music/ happenings (+ what to wear, song of the week, ...)
Wednesday - art/ photography (+ style crushes, artist of the month, ...)
Thursday - book/short stroy (ravishing book post #)
Friday - rambles, summarizing my week, ME ME ME
w/e - optional (how to.., the files of new.., lists, plus if anything totally interesting happens)

If you have any ideas what you'd like to see here, pls comment. Also I reserve the right to change this shedule according to mood or convenience:)

Wish me luck people. I might actually need it..

Oh and all of the above was actually written today - on Friday - Thursday's post is:

Reading Cecelia Ahern's "A Place Called Here". It's seriously good.

Current style crush..

Shirley, not only do I have most of her songs instantly stuck in my head and adore them but I also think she totally rocks. I absolutely heart this woman and cannot wait to hear the 2009 Garbage album..

Isn't she just perfect? Who are your current style crushes?

What to wear to jump outta an airplane?

That really is the question, isn't it? Ha, well tomorrow is D day and I'm in a bundle of nerves. Fussing about Buddy, time-management and not to mention the nagging thoughts in my head telling me I am going to die and it's going to be all my own bloody fault.

I have been advised to wear comfy (suitable for "landing") shoes - e.g. not taking the new peeptoes then - and apparently skirts aren't allowed either (bit of a disapointment, if you ask me..). So that kinda leave me with jeans and trainers, also known as the most boring outfit imaginable. What fun! And we'll be given some sort of a boiler suit (haha! never have worn one yet) to wear and a helmet. How flattering. And what's the point of it anyways? I mean, if the parachute doesn't open I doubt the helmet would help any.. Yup, you got it. I'm really "excited" about this whole deal. My best friend, sister, hairdresser and nail artist have all told me am crazy to be going but I've given my word and said I'd go so I'm going. I take my promises a bit too seriously, but then again, we each have our flaws, don't we.

Well, anyways, everyone else - who aren't my best friend, sister, hairdresser or nail artist - have assured me that it will be fun and very little chance of dying. I have thus decided to believe them and try to relish in the feeling of this self-inflicted dread. Yes, it will be fun! What joy awaits me! Yeay! (That is, unless I die..)

Am much more eager about the party afterwards thou. Now that should be a real head tripper. And will most definitely NOT be wearing no trainers or jeans to said party. No way. No way in hell.

UPDATE: the jump has been canceled due to bad weather. I guess some things just weren't meant to happen. Well at least party is still on, yeay:)))

Too many parties, too little time..

I'm afraid I've been too busy to write. It seems I have been overwheled with the idea of free time and so I've filled it up to the brim, hardly leaving space to walk the dog and/or sleep inbetween, not to mention actually going to work. I am eagerly looking forward to the family coming back from L.A. as to help me with poor Buddy..
Tonight I'm going to see Toxique play and tomorrow perhaps jumping out of an airplane (though due to recent events - girl and instructor dying this Sunday - am somewhat hoping it'll be thundering and thus trip canceled. Will let you know how it all turns out.)

Oh and yesterday was at another IronFist photoshoot - sack the make-up artist btw - and before that at Lucky Hair Studio. Busy as a bee. And later still went to Ujezd and then on a rainy walk to celebrate. Cpt. Morgan Spice..

Now off to get my nails done! Promise better posts to come, as soon as catch my breath.

Check out my new necklace..isn't it purrrrdy? Was gift from Aja, thank you hun!

Truth be told..

I have a confession to make, I have trouble.. with lipstick. Always just seems a bit too much. I'm more of a lip-gloss kinda girl, although mostly end up regretting it since I like to let my hair down and when it sticks, how annoying is that?? Anyways, I'm even completely satisfied with just lip balm.. as long as all necessary eye make-up is in place. Because eye make-up, darlings, is a whole nother story.
I love me some eye-liner! As thou reading my thoughts, Elle magazine has dedicated their July style section to a heavily rimmed Simona Krainova. I love these photos!! Dramatic yet incredibly sexy. And when a woman can look amazing with dripping mascara, that's one hot woman.

I, on the otherhand, prefer non-messy liner (well, on most days.. and especially for day. But sometimes I do go for that "Kate Moss after a party" look. And night-time make-up will have a whole post to itself, promise. Be scared.)
So how do you like your day-time make-up?

A Saturday update..

As some of you may know with Friday gone I have finished this year's exam week (a bit of a mixed review on that one but I don't really want to get into that for it's not the time nor the place really) and have been celebrating my newfound free time (e.g. FINALLY got to see my bestfriend, srsly, it's been TOO long!! So making a post-exam resolution - no, not just to study more, hah! - but to make time for important non-academic related aspects of life such as seeing my dearest and nearest. One should always make time for bestfriends. Fact.) So that was yesterday, today was also spent in a rather glamorous manner. Have just gotten back from an all-day relaxing session (wonderful dinner, ok movie, some shopping etc.). And put in some family time as well.

The reunion. (Yes, wearing my fave Zara scarf, it's cold here people.)

Friday's rambles..

What I'm up to this morning:
  • indulging in Belle de jour's blog, reading thru her old entries
  • thinking about upcoming Monday visit to my hairdresser. Will I stick with what I've got or go for smth new, that is the question.
  • excited about seeing my best friend tonight for drinks.. Happy bday Aja!
  • wondering what I'll wear for today's exam. Thou it really doesn't matter since I've fucked up the most important one and thus will most likely be schooless for the upcoming year, reality bites.
  • lemonade instead of coffee. toast, chocolate and cornflakes for breakfast.
  • planning on going to see Coco Chanel movie next week. Cannot wait.
  • am double-booking on Monday, will be v. tight schedule. No rest for the wicked.
  • last yet not least have been featured on The Sassy Minx blog, check it out, it's v. sassy: http://www.thesassyminx.com/girls-on-top/blog-love-ms-veve/

I am so in awe right now..

The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl - Belle de jour

Belle de jour's blog and her books are just off the hook. I'm so shocked about how well it's written. I mean I expected to be shocked, yes, but by content not by quality. Her style is so straight-forward and yet at the same time cunningly amusing. I sincerely wish I could meet Belle in person, bet we'd be instant friends.

Also turned into an ITV show, have not seen it yet so cannot comment. Am interested thou.

Theatre night!

There's nothing like a night on the town to cure a foul mood. Going to see DON JUAN tonight starring one of my all-time favorite Czech actors Miroslav Donutil. Cannot wait! I loved him in everything else I've seen him play in and Don Juan should be a hoot. Another plus? It's in my favorite theatre Stavovske divadlo (I do love the National theatre but the Stavovske theatre just seem like it's more about the actual plays and less about the place..)

This photo does NOT do it justice. Stavoske divadlo is much more lovely than this, I swear! And big thanks to my bro for the tickets.

What I'm wearing: Zara black long sleeved tee, Pull&Bear floral print mini, Stradivarius leather pleated belt and gold hoop "studded" earrings, Bershka fake-leather jacket, VeroModa toote bag and my new favorite accessory: "Paris" charm necklace. It has a little Eiffel tower and a fortune cookie slogan "live your life".. adorable.

In the middle..

It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).

I'm in the middle of exam week at the moment (three days to go - sooo cannot wait till Friday..) and I srsly hope that "Everything will be just fine, everything will be alright". If nothing else, that Jimmy Eat World song is pretty kickass and win or lose Friday night it'll be Harley's night. Why? Because: Jack. Lives. Here.
Nice photo isn't it? S'by moi, none the less..

How fab is this fine art print, right? Danny Roberts has fast become my fave artist of the moment. Now if only I could get an InYourFaceFashion sketch..

Bla bla bla..

To be honest, I so don't know what to write about.. That's partly due to the upcoming tests that await my poor sorry self next week and thus I should have my head jammed in a textbook 24/7 right up until next Friday and not see/hear/speak of anything besides chemistry, biology and physics. Having said all that and yet at the same time whining about it on my blog, you're probably wondering if there's a point to this. Well, sorry, no, there isn't. Here's a picture of my bullterier to cheer you up then.

Isn't he sooooo cute? And what a great day he's having.. just enjoying himself in the forest, savouring the sun and all the nature stuff. In my next life I'd wanna be him..

Things to do before I'm 30

My goal-oriented wish list:
  • become a doctor (e.g. finish university - Oh pleeeeeease God..)
  • write a best-seller (and then the script for the blockbuster;)
  • move outta my parent's house (to some lovely chic apartment/house preferably in Paris)
  • reach wardrobe heaven: custom-made closet as seen in SATC the movie (wouldn't mind some of the girls' clothes as well..)
  • travel the world (this topic will be majorly attended to this summer! cannot wait for my vacation!!)
  • read all the must-read books on my list (starting with "Other People's Love Letters")
  • get my nose fixed - hope will finally brave up to it come autumn/winter
  • actually fulfill some of the things I plan, ha!
  • obtain this Missoni dress (which is just amazingly beautiful. Althou to be honest, this last point on my list is probably the one I'd let go of most willingly. But still, it is a very lovely dress..)

New nails.. to bring new luck!

My exam week has started and I'm a mess. Eating weird foods (at strange times of day might I add), no exersize, drinking tons of coffee and during moments of intense nervousness I've started to pick at my nails. Yeah, that adds up to a lovely picture, not. Anyways, today I've had just about enough of the godawful sight of my hands and could stand it no longer so I booked an appointment at my local hair/nail studio and ta da! Hot pink! Just rad. Hope they bring me luck tomorrow.

Oh and I have reinstated my prior Redbull addiction. The fridge is packed with these babies. Hell yeah! Bring it on..

How to.. write a good script

Now to be honest I know nothing about scripts BUT I do watch a LOT of films, TV etc. to know a good script when I see one. And I know what I DON'T like to see..

1) everyone doing everyone. As much as most TV show script writers seem to think this goes on in reality, it does not. Ok, granted, it's a small world, but it ain't THAT small..

2) drama where there is none. Now this is particularly frustrating. And it ruins most shows that go on further than two three seasons..

3) characters evolving into annoying. I hate when that happens, again concerning tv shows lasting over a certain period. This is when "you've lost that loving feeling" comes to mind.. and not in a good way. (is there a good way?) - happened to Buffy come 4th-5th season.. :/

4) bullshit. This is a hard one, because it varies depending the genre of the film/show. Like if it's a horror movie there are things that couldn't be possible and it's totally acceptable. But I hate when this happens to action movies. And yeah, I get it, people wanna see rad stunts and that's just dandy, but does everyone have to do the "flying kicking" trick? Srsly, the bullshit action totally ruined Charlie's Angels the movie. The show was all about badass chicks being all under cover and sexy and clever but they didn't need all those shit "she's hanging on a wire" moves. They had the real deal and it was SO much more entertaining..

5) when things don't make sense. The "why would he do that?" or "wtf?" parts of films/shows. There's times when it works - like in real confusing thriller/psycho flicks - but it mostly looks just like the writer lost his/her mojo and is trying to add fluff to his/her stuff..

6) this one's a TV show classic - especially in Czech shows and just let me tell you the outcome is so pleeeeeease - characters returning from being dead or when they were "away". Worst is when it's the characters you were happy to be rid of. It's so old and so tragic.

7) this one's a movie sequel ordeal - characters NOT returning. How annoying is it when your favorite character gets fucked off! (Appearently almost happened to Samantha in SATC - well bloody happy it didn't!! She is sooo my fave!)

8) when it's no surprise at all. Too much predictable is just a waste of time. I mean, common, can't ya come up with anything new??

9) when it's different than in the book. I hate it when films fuck with the literary original.. Actually, let me rephrase that, when they fuck with the book/short story/comix whatever in a bad way. I know this is a toughie with all things considered, but still, you have to admit, seeing your favorite masterpiece turned into a crap movie hurts..

So basically, the answer to how to write a good script lies in the omission of these trivial mistakes. Oh and keeping it real and close to the heart helps. If you believe in smth, changes are there's smth there to believe in..

From the files of New

In your face fashion proudly presents this week's shopping finds:

1) totally OTT mini-mini-skirt that looks almost leather/PVC-ish. This is what I'll wear post uni-exams for the manditory party. Sick:)

2) the fringed sandals (in the perfect shade of brown to go with my "festival sack") - this was rather unexpected and thus all the better

3) the fake leather jacket - which I have been looking for since the end of winter. Finally.

4) pink studded fringed across-the-shoulder bag - I am in love with fringed accessories. S'hot.

5) vintage men's inspired shoes (now these are truely a treasure) that my Mum gave me. I'm a lucky girl. Yes, I know.

6) the perky hoodie - not the funnest item in the world but srsly, it's cold out there people.

7) peep-toe brown balerina flats - perfect for anything white (reminds me, must find sassy white long skirt/dress somewhere.. any ideas?)

8) big bold dark gold ring. Very badass.

My mid-exams "see-no-evil" pose. Flashing said ring and cozying up in new Pull&bear hoodie.

(brands: Topshop, Bata, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Tamaris, Pull&Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius)

*missing picture of fringed sandals can be found in the comments

I love..

..getting my hair done. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm totally addicted, I'm always giddy and restless the week before I get my colour done. I try to get it coloured only once a month but I do cheat occasionally and it goes to about three weeks.

My hairdresser, who happens to be a very good friend of mine, has just opened a new studio called LUCKY HAIR (located at Poupetova street, Prague - Holesovice). The place is just incredible! I love the design! I mean, a leopard print couch? Tattoo motive paintings? Dancing hairdriers and scissors? Now that's all kinds of radness;)

What's your guilty pleasure?

What to wear to university exams?

Legend has it that less is more and the simpler and less original the better. Legend is kinda right.. thou doesn't sound like much fun does it? Tough luck, it ain't all about the fun these days. It's kinda like dressing for court, you don't want to offend anyone and judges like blue;) There are many factors that influence the final outcome of course, such as if it is a written or an oral examination, what subject it is from and whether or not the profesor is an ass. Well, today I'm was writing my first exam and I went for casual. Getting dressed for a uni exam is almost the same as visiting your ex. You don't wanna look too good.. yet at the same time you wanna feel your best.. I was going for comfy meets semi stylish. Nothing OTT (mainly because it was FREEZING outside so the new Topshop miniskirt I bought was out of the question). E.g. jeans, leather jacket, printed tee.. I highly recommend taking something "lucky" along, just for good measure. I took my new Topshop earrings and ring. (The ring's pretty rad, isn't it?)

Moving on..

There comes a time when things end and one must except that, move on. It's hard when what you're moving on from is incredible and you know that you won't find anything better. Yeah, you guessed it, this is another SATC post.. well actually, not really. I'm done with SATC (well, until the next movie of course, I think I've re-watched all the episodes one too many times;)) and thus have branched out in hope to find new stylish shows to waste my time with..

What I found was: Lipstick Jungle (based on book, which was an okay read by Candace Bushnell - loved when Wendy got her groove back) and Cashmere Mafia (which sadly only had a first season run - 7 episodes - ABC dropped the show - I actually started to really like it, damn. Miranda Otto's character Juliet Draper kinda grew on me..). I've watched more or less most of the first season of Lipstick Jungle and althou it's no where near as good as SATC, for now it'll have to do..
Any suggestions? What shows do you watch?

Lovepoems to no one in particular..

How Much..

How much more
Could I possibly give
When I gave you my heart
You left it there
How much longer
Do you expect me to wait
There is nothing left
Now that it's too late

How much harder
Was I supposed to try
How much better
Were you than I
How much harder
Could I ever fall
Did you ever care or love me?
A little or non at all

How much stronger
Did you expect me to be
How much later
Will this be hurting me
When will you realize
That I am truely gone
How much will it still hurt
Before we move on

Will you even remeber
Will you ever forgive
How much more will I die inside
Though we both still live
Or will you change?
Will you love me forever
How much more can I take?
Or will it be never..
