Farewell to Summer

It's officially autumn (=winter) here and so I can no longer go out without wearing warm footwear. But before that happened I happily wore these studded slipper flats from Zara that I bought in Rome.
I wore them on the first day back at uni (two and a half weeks ago) and trust it was a HARD decision to choose which pair of shoes to wear. The 'first day of school' outfit is a crucial fashion statement - it should show who you have become during the summer. And it's also nice to flaunt new things right? Below is the bag I wore - doctor's bags are big this season. Plus I thrifted it for like almost nothing...

I Believe in the Person I Want to Become

On my balcony, having a smoke.
Casual and care-free.
Cutting classes and shunning responsibilities.
Breaking all the rules.
wearing: Topshop jacket, H&M sweater and H&M dress, favorite Stradivarius boots that are slowly but surely getting worn to pieces
After watching Lana Del Rey's new video Ride I have decided to take flight and forget about the things that have been holding me back. Fuck not having a place to take photos, fuck what other people think, fuck it all. I do believe in the person I want to become. And it will happen. I was meant to run free. It's time I found myself again and unleashed the free spirit that is my soul...

Who'll Be President?

I usually keep this blog light (about fashion and such) but today I felt drawn to touch the topic of the presidential campaign in the Czech Republic. I hate politics and didn't think I would be too interested in the presidential voting but Vladimir Franz has my vote for sure. So I would like to use this space to show my support. Vladimir Franz is a very interesting person and I dearly hope that he'll be our new president (you can check out his webpage here: www.vladimirfranz.cz though it's in Czech).

Currently Reading

My tastes in literature vary. I like all kinds of books, from the classics to thrillers to chick lit. What I don't usually read is non-fiction. But I made an exception for Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers. I loved the HBO mini-series based on the book so I gave it a shot. I've just started reading it but so far so very good.

Roman Holiday

The boy & I went for a 3 and a half day mini-break to Rome. It was awesome. Perhaps a bit too short but I think we managed to see everything and do a bit of shopping. ;) I kept my wardrobe simple. A lot of black.
 I love this dress.
above: Stardivarius cropped jeans, H&M tee and tank top, ipanema flip-flops, Mark B for Topshop bag, Asos watch
below: new earrings I got in Rome from a local designer! + Zara headband
I really wanted to buy this guy but in the end I resisted. I kinda miss him, what can I say? I'm a piggy lover.

Fifty Shades

okay, so I just finished it and it was... interesting. I liked the dark parts (and I'm not talking about the word-by-word descriptions of utopian sex - honestly, as if!) and it read really well, a real page-turner. But at times it felt so juvenile! Like it was intended for thirteen year olds - the way that Ana and Christian sometimes acted, I felt like they should just grow up and get real. But I'm glad it had a happy ending :) though I still think the ending to the movie The Secretary is a thousand times better! way more dark. very chic.

2 years and a Million Dates

In a couple of days the boy and I will celebrate our two year anni and as a gift I got these heels from him. They're from Iron Fist and are called "Million Dates". Which in my opinion is just perfect :)

Shoe Shopping

While I was out buying a birthday present for the boy I stopped by Zara and lucky me, managed to score two pairs of heels. Those who know me know I can't resist a nice pair of shoes and when there's a sale involved, I get sucked right in. What can I say? I'm shoe addicted.

Mr. Trusty

I've never been driven by common sense when it comes to fashion. I like my heels high and my bags small. But a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get by and so I finally caved in. Yeesh. I bought this here bag today:

It's a backpack. I haven't worn a backpack since middle school. But when you have to carry around a ton of book, your laptop and essentials, you start to think about your options. I envision more comfortable uni days, when my back isn't hurting like hell and my bag isn't popping in its seams. This baby will hold all my crap and still be chic. I'll call him Mr. Trusty and he'll better serve me good.

Hair Hues

I talk about change. I want to change. But do I change? Not much. Maybe little things. Like my hair.

I like to change my hair a lot. It's like a Madonna thing without the great stylists and hair dressers. Definitely a danger zone occasionally. But sometimes I get things right. How it turned out the last time, well, let's just say I'm not completely convinced. But it's not all bad.

Walking Mr. Piggy (not shown) this morning.
I changed my hair color sometime last week (or the week before? time blends...) and here's me being all casual on my morning walk with my pig. I haven't been "face on" here on the blog in ages because I feel ridiculous taking photos of my own head but it was a must. I might need to get a camera ready friend to join me on my walks or something. Speaking of neediness, I'll be posting summer Files of New in the next few days. There was a lot of stuff I "needed" this summer. Till then, xoxo, Veronique

Dear blog,

how are you? We haven't spoken in days and I've missed you. I've been on vacation in the mountains and it was nice, though mountains aren't really my thing. We got back on Saturday and after a bit of a break on Sunday, I've been trying to finally tidy up the flat. Let me tell you, it's more work than it seemed! I've bought tons of boxes for storage and still need a few more! But I'm sure the result will be worth all the effort. We might finally have room for a photo-spot in the flat! Fingers crossed.

I'll definitely show you the end result when I've finished but until then I'll leave you in the hands/hooves of Mr. Piggy.

Yours,
Miss V

shoes shoes shoes

A few days ago the boy & I went to a bar near our flat and given that it was close I opted to wear a crazy pair of heels. These are I love shoes leopard print open toe wedges and are rather surprisingly comfy considering their height. I wore a new dress I got that day over at Topshop and my trusty Zara leather jacket (purse is from Mango, headband Topshop). I felt like a princess. Of course, I was very OTT for the bar but so what. I reckon that if you have the dresses and the shoes you should just go and wear them. If you feel good in what you're wearing you will look good as well. That's my golden rule...
And of course there was more shoe saving to be done this week... Top left - today's outfit: Reserved dress, NYer flats; Top right - Zara women mini-wedged sandals; Bottom left - Bershka studded sandals (love these!); Bottom right - Asos cut-out lace-up shoes (so so uncomfortable! They literally cut into my feet, ouch!)
Last but not least, here are shoes I saved ages ago and I've already posted them here but then I played around with my phone apps and I really like how the pictures look. Skirt is by Motel, jelly flats are from Gate. Notice the piggy below. Btw, I have a few things planned for this here blog, so if you haven't given up on me just yet, stay tuned. I'll be on vacation next week but when I get back it'll be bigger and better here. Or maybe just the same. Who knows, but I will most definitely be blogging more, I've made a time management plan and all. Till next time, xx, Miss V

A Pair of Blue Jeans

I bought this pair of jeans about two weeks ago in the Mango sale. I love it when Mango has sales - the prices drop so much it's unbelievable! Anyways, as is custom with new items of clothing that feel 'just right', I have been wearing them almost non-stop.
Zara brown wooden sandals, Atmosphere summer wedges in pink
PPQ for Office wedges

Lately I have been enjoying the sales, reading all kinds of books, thrifting as much as possible, watching re-runs of old X-files, thinking about the essays I still have to write and getting ready for my pending vacation. It's gotten a bit cold on us here in Prague but it's still summer enough and I'm trying to get the most out of it before our very short Autumn rolls around and then as if in the blink of an eye Winter shows up. There's stillso many pairs of shoes to get through! But you know me and I love a challenge. So stay tuned, xx, V

My first Vlog!

Hi guys, I thought it would be interesting to make a vlog on the way home from shopping/dinner with the boy today. Let me know what you think, if you like it, what to change etc. I know it's not the best video, but I don't have a video editor on my PC and so it's literally just what I captured with my phone while walking home. I just thought it'd be another step forward for this blog to post a video, so that you could hear my voice and get to know me a little bit more. Anyways, here's a close-up of the shoes I was wearing:
Vivienne Westwood for Melissa
And here's a picture of the shoes I bought at Zara today (*I already wore them! Right after coming home I changed into them to walk Mr. Piggy)
Would love to hear some feed back about the video so please don't hesitate to comment or to send an email, see ya!

Everyday Shoe Saving

Guess what? I'm still saving shoes. I haven't uploaded too many shoe saves this time around but I'll tell you this - I'm still saving shoes. It's what I do. It's what I love. I currently have 308 pairs of shoes in my collection and have worn 150 pairs. Which means I'm half-way through the challenge. I haven't been as good at taking photos this year but for me, that's not the point of the challenge. For me the whole thing is about getting wear out of my shoes. Not just buying but also enjoying them.
Because I usually don't have the energy to lug my camera around I just take photos via my phone. But my phone cam is a bit unreliable and in the wrong light takes incredibly crappy pictures. So I don't always snap up the shoes I wear. I'd like to make a nice corner in mmy flat for taking pictures but my flat is TINY and is always crammed full of stuff. Not sure how that'll work out, but we'll see. Till then I'll just stick to saving shoes for myself and occasionally showing you a mass shoe saving post like this one.

Mighty Dracul

Yesterday I turned 25. To celebrate and to help out some friends in promoting their festival - we filmed this short video of the building of the festival and Dracul having a good piggy time :)

Enjoy!

Returning home

Yesterday evening the boy & I got back from our London holiday. It was a nice trip, though there was rain almost all the time. I'll be sharing photos soon but until then I wanted to show this quick snap that was taken outside of one of the restaurants we ate at. There was the sweetest doggie ever.

He either fell in love with me or just loved to cuddle. He was really just perfect!

*One of the down points of my trip: I ended up losing this scarf on the first day I wore it! This is the only photo of it I have. Poor scarf, I'll miss you. Was kinda bummed but at least it was a thrift find and wasn't expensive... Still, I hate losing things!

Wearing: H&M shoes, H&M mini skirt, Zara leather jacket, thrifted sweater, Dunlop bag, H&M tank top (which you can't see anyways), Asos watch and earrings (Mr. Mustache!)

Favorite Places

Today I'm home, finishing up a translation seminar paper and fighting off the beginning of a cold. As I stare longingly out of the window and look at the wonderful sun shine, I think of my favorite places. There are quite a few I have in Prague but I'll just mention a fraction.
The park of the way from work
There is this tiny tiny park on the way from work to the tram stop home. It's a lovely place, though in the colder months can be quite dangerous (it might not look like it from this picture, but it's super steep!)
Divoka Sarka park
You might remember this photo from the first of May - the boy and I took a trip out to Divoka Sarka. I just adore this place. It has a nice peaceful feel to it but is still in the boundaries of Prague and not too far from the center either.
Spicy chick pea soup at home. This is probably my favorite soup. What can I say? I'm a chickpea gal.
My flat. It's tiny, it's rented, it's usually a mess, bla bla bla, but I love it anyway.
The view from my flat
One of the things I love about the flat is the view. It's literally breath-taking. I adore this little space I call home. I know I'll have to move sooner or later but still, for the time being, it's nice to call it home.

That's all for now, talk soon, xox,
V
